Overview
Spouse parole programs are designed to allow certain noncitizen spouses of U.S. citizens who are already present in the United States to seek a temporary, discretionary grant of parole. The aim of such programs is generally to keep families together and, where eligible, to create a pathway for the spouse to pursue lawful permanent residence from within the country.
Who it may affect
These programs typically focus on long-residing spouses who entered without inspection and would otherwise face significant obstacles — such as the need to depart the U.S. and trigger reentry bars — when pursuing a green card. Eligibility criteria, continuous-presence requirements, and program availability depend on the policy in effect at the time of filing.
