How to Prepare for Your USCIS Naturalization Interview

June 2, 2026 · Uncategorized

The naturalization interview is one of the most important steps in becoming a U.S. citizen. During this interview, a USCIS officer will review your N-400 application, test your English proficiency, and ask you questions about U.S. history and government.

What to Bring

Bring your green card, passport, appointment notice, any travel records since filing, and originals of documents you submitted with your application. If you have had any arrests or citations, bring certified court dispositions.

What to Expect

The officer will ask you to take an oath to tell the truth. They will then review your application line by line and may ask clarifying questions about travel, work history, or family. The English test includes reading one sentence aloud and writing one sentence dictated by the officer. The civics test includes up to 10 questions — you need 6 correct to pass.
